Which i can use for diagnostics xentry and inpa/ista at least and for programming vediamo, monaco and ncs expert? VXDIAG VCX SE or the new SM3 (Scanmatik 3)
Scanmatik SM3 Pass-Thru adapter is a successor of SM2Pro adapter with CAN-FD and DoIP protocols.
The new scanmatik 3 (looks pretty much the same as scanmatik 2 pro), but main difference being the introduction of CANFD, DOIP, wifi instead of BlueTooth, faster USB data transfer speed (from 12 mbps to 480 mbps, they changed the usb chip/drivers it seems), and the auxiliary cable now comes with the basic package.
Both VXDIAG VCX SE and SM3 can be used as J2534 passthru for Benz Xentry, BMW ISTA and many other software. They both can be used with pcmflash/bitbox for reading and writing ecus asll well.
VCX SE supports DoIP protocol but does not support CAN FD protocol. You should get VXDIAG VCX FD unit for CAN FD. VCX FD is cheaper than SM3 though.
VXDIAG VCX SE unit costs half price of scanmatik 3. VXDIAG now supports both Vediamo and DTS Monaco engineering software. SM2 only DTS.
They can’t make work properly j2534 sm2 with diagbox and releasing new HW. Some users had trouble running PSA diagbox software with SM2 Pro. VXDIAG works with diagbox with license activated.
On aliexpress sm2 pro costs like 50$ and sm3 450$. SM3 takes much more than SM2 pro.
Like the SM2 pro, SM3 also has a problem communicating with K-line. A lot issues with sm3, most of them are on K-Line communication. For example, flash med9 via pcmflash and can’t even connect via K-Line. EDC16 in VAG also can’t connect via K-line.
Vediamo coding via k line success but long time for connect and send coding. DAS doesn’t work properly.

- If you already own an SM2, upgrading to SM3 might not be worth it, as SM2 Pro still receives updates and new features.
- For users needing to work across multiple brands, the VXDIAG VCX SE is a better choice due to its lower price and broader compatibilit

FYI:
For now SM3 support for CAN-FD/DoIP is implemented using J2534-2 2020 standard.
CAN-FD: is required GM GDS2/SPS3 (mostly on >= 2020 cars), Ford FDRS on 2022 cars.
Most of other cars for this moment only use CAN-FD in internal networks (OBD is connected thru gateway module which translates CAN-FD to CAN2.0).
We have a growing demand from flash software makers (PCMFlash, BitBox etc) to support CAN-FD because bench-mode connection requires it.
